Allergy-Friendly Eating in Venice, Italy - my guide to some of the best gluten free, dairy free, vegan and allergy-friendly restaurants and eateries in Venice, Italy.

Venice is one of the most spectacular and unique cities in the world. It is somewhere I believe everyone should see in their lifetime. Of course, that include those of us with food allergies!

Admittedly, eating in Venice can be tricky. Especially for someone like me with a shellfish allergy, because much of what they serve is out of the water.

If fish and shellfish are not an issue for you, you should be able find an abundance of delicious dishes! Many that are naturally gluten free, dairy free, and packed with fresh herbs to delight the tastebuds!

I want to mention that during my stay I did try a few more restaurants that mentioned below. Unfortunately, there weren’t others I feel comfortable to recommend to fellow travelers. Hopefully on future visits I will be able to add to this list.

A note about breakfast in Italy: most hotels in Italy offer free breakfast. This includes the ones mentioned in my post about The Perfect 10 Day Italy Itinerary.

When you book a hotel, make sure to check with them to see if they offer options to accommodate your particular food allergies.

All of the hotels I stayed at did offer options I could eat. I did not choose to have breakfast while there as I was still full from eating the night before.

Suso Gelatoteca

Gluten Free | Dairy Free | Egg Free | Vegan

The highlight of all the food I ate in Venice was Suso Gelatoteca. It is a little off of the main walkways. Yet, when I arrived there, it was packed with a line over 20 people long. This was no surprise once I got my hot little hands on some gelato. Absolutely the best gluten free and vegan gelato I have ever eaten! They also offered gluten free cones which was a happy surprise. The gelato is so creamy, flavorful, and rich. It is something I will look forward to having on my next trip to Venice.

Bistrot de Venise

Gluten Free | Dairy Free | Egg Free | Vegan

Bistrot de Venise was the most fancy restaurant I tried while in Venice. Just blocks from St. Mark’s, it offered both inside and outside seating which was a treat. The menu itself showed few options I could easily order that were allergy-friendly. Luckily, the staff aimed to please and offered to make me dishes not on the menu to accommodate my needs. In addition, they sent someone out to the store to get me bread that was free of all my allergens! The attentiveness shown to me during my meal made this a memorable (and delicious) stop.

Frary’s

Gluten Free | Dairy Free | Egg Free | Vegan

Since many of the restaurants in Venice were focused on seafood and shellfish, I made it my mission to seek out different types of food that would meet my needs. Frary’s serves Mediterranean food and was a great fit for me! It it offered a large menu with many options I could order without adjustments. The staff was also very attentive and knowledgable about the food. That made me extremely happy and comfortable to enjoy a dinner here during my stay.
