Allergy-Friendly Eating In The French Quarter, New Orleans - My guide to some of the best gluten free, dairy free, vegan and allergy-friendly restaurants and eateries in the French Quarter - New Orleans, LA.

When planning a trip to New Orleans, my first step was to search for the best restaurants that were gluten free and vegan in the French Quarter.

New Orleans is known for their food. Foods like gumbo, jambalaya, muffulettas, beignets, pralines, and king cakes. Unfortunately, those foods aren’t options for someone like me who needs gluten free, dairy free, vegan and overall much more allergy-friendly options!

Keeping all of this in mind I set out to create my eating plan. I had decided to stay in a beautiful and historic hotel in the French Quarter to be within walking distance to all the best attractions in the city.

Staying there helped to greatly narrow down my search for where to eat and these are my favorite finds from my stay!

Meals From The Heart

Located in the lovely and convenient French Market; Meals From The Heart has lots of options for delicious gluten free and vegan food. If you decide to walk up to their service counter to order, make sure you are prepared to wait. The food is made after you order and can take a bit of time. The line of people waiting for their food speaks volumes for how it is absolutely worth the wait! If you’re in a hurry, I recommend ordering ahead online and picking up. Their counter service has limited hours, but they also offer delivery until 10pm Monday through Saturday.

I fell in love with their impossible tacos on corn tortillas. I wished I had more time in New Orleans to try more of their wonderful menu options!

Another spot with spectacular gluten free and vegan food in the French Quarter is Holy Crepes. I was so impressed with the fact that they take extra precaution for those of us with allergies. They do that by cooking the gluten free and vegan crepes on a separate grill. It is so wonderful to be able to eat somewhere with confidence! This adorable crepe cart is located in the French Market and open from 10am-5pm everyday.

I fell so in love with their hummus crepe with spinach and broccoli that I ate it twice! If you haven’t tried a savory crepe, I highly recommend it.

El Gato Negro

Gluten Free | Dairy Free | Egg Free | Vegan Options

It is no secret that I could eat tacos everyday for the rest of my life. Finding El Gato Negro as a gluten free and vegan option in the French Quarter was a lifesaver and fulfilled all my taco cravings during my trip. They have a specific gluten free menu, which always helps to make me feel more confident that they take allergies seriously.

My favorite part of the meal was their table side guacamole. They were able to make it without tomatoes so I could have it without any of my allergens. They even offer it with cucumber chips for a healthier option.

Conclusion

I hope these suggestions can help you find great places to eat during your stay in the French Quarter!
