Allergy-Friendly Eating in Florence, Italy - Our guide to some of the best gluten free, dairy free, vegan and allergy-friendly restaurants and eateries in Florence, Italy.

If you’re planning a trip to Florence, Italy and looking for the best allergy-friendly restaurants, I have you covered!

Florence is beautiful, extremely easy to navigate, and all of the restaurants are a quick walk from center of the city.

While visiting this beautiful city, I found some real gems that served many of the best meals I ate in all of Italy!

You might be surprised how allergy-friendly the city is with many restaurants catering to gluten free, dairy free, egg free, and vegan diners.

I was surprised with all of the delicious homemade allergy-free eats including pastries, fresh bread, pizzas, gelato and more!

Eating Gluten Free, Dairy Free, And Vegan For Breakfast In Florence:

Most hotels in Italy offer free breakfast, including the ones mentioned in my post about The Perfect 10 Day Italy Itinerary.

When you book a hotel, make sure to check with them to see if they offer options to accommodate your particular food allergies.

All of the hotels I stayed at did offer options, but I did not choose to have breakfast any of the mornings as I was still full from eating the night before.

These were some of my favorite gluten free, dairy free, and vegan restaurant experiences in Florence:

Starbene Gold

Gluten Free | Dairy Free | Egg Free | Vegan Options

I always say that I have a skill for finding gluten free and vegan pastries around the work and Starbene Gold was a real gem! This lovely bakery had loads of gluten free, dairy free, egg free and vegan pastries. My favorite was the apple pastry – I still think about how light and flaky the phyllo dough was wrapped around the sweet cinnamon apples. It is almost worth the flight to Italy just for that treat!

Mister Pizza

Gluten Free | Dairy Free | Egg Free | Vegan Options

If you want gluten free and vegan pizza while in Florence, you have to fo to Mister Pizza! Hands down, Mister Pizza had my favorite pizza in all of Italy. I may have been biased because they offered actually offered tomato free sauces, vegan cheese, and gluten free/vegan crusts all in the same place. Rarely does that happen! I don’t know if I will ever be able to touch another cardboard-like gluten free crust after having their soft, light, and chewy crust. I highly recommend asking for the chili olive oil to drizzle on top and add some heat.  With two locations in Florence, you’ll never be far from a Mister Pizza!

Trattoria da Garibardi

Gluten Free | Dairy Free | Egg Free | Vegan Options

Sitting outside in the square at Trattoria da Garibardi with a bottle of wine and some gluten free vegan bread was a highlight of our time in Florence. The food and service were both exceptional. I told the server my allergies and the response was “no problem..” and they went on to tell me about my long list of options. It is everything you dream of when eating dinner in Italy!

Hostaria il Desco

Gluten Free | Dairy Free | Egg Free | Vegan Options

If you’re looking for a cozy place to have a delicious dinner with exceptional service, I definitely recommend Hostaria il Desco! To my delight, they actually make their own gluten free and vegan bread each day which they served to me with olive oil. They had plenty of options for me on the menu and were knowledgable about the food they served. The intimate atmosphere and leisurely service made us want to stay all night. I also love that they end your meal with a shot of limocello to make sure you leave happy!

Ristorante Il Ricettario

Gluten Free | Dairy Free | Egg Free Options

After a lovely morning at the Uffizi, a stop at Ristorante Il Ricettario was just what we needed. What stood out about this place was the pride the owner took in providing fresh, local foods. He personally visited the places where he sourced his meats and vegetables and had high quality ingredients in every dish. My only note for other travelers would be: Vegans beware, this restaurant is heavy on the meat!

Festival del Gelato

Gluten Free | Dairy Free | Egg Free | Vegan Options

I thought one of the greatest joys of being in Italy is enjoying dessert every day! After a day of walking around enjoying the beauty of Florence, finding a gelato shop was a must. I stopped here on the way back to my hotel. This vegan chocolate gelato definitely hit the spot!
