Double Dutch Pancake House

Double Dutch Pancake House was probably my favorite find for gluten free, dairy free, and vegan food in York. I was so surprised at the HUGE selection they had to offer. A two-sided menu with gluten free and vegan options! That included things like sweet and savory pancakes, dairy free and vegan chocolate, whipped cream and even ice cream.

While visiting I had the apple pancake. If you’re wondering what it is like, it is a very light, thin pancake, similar to a crepe. To my delight, it came topped with powdered sugar and a side of maple syrup and dairy free whipped cream. It was unlike anything I have ever been able to enjoy in my life. I highly recommend a stop here!

Source offered an excellent experience from start to finish for someone with food allergies and different dietary needs. Interestedly enough, they specialize in meats cooked low and slow, but they also don’t forget about the vegans! There is a special section of the menu with unique items like vegan fish and chips, vegan fried chicken and a taco tray. They even offer gluten free and vegan desserts.

Humpit

Humpit (a combination of the words hummus and pita) is the place you want to be if you’re looking for a plant based restaurant in York. It is located just across the street from Double Dutch Pancake House, not far from the main drag for sightseeing in the city. You can select from salads, bowls, pitas, and more. The menu wasn’t marked as gluten free, but the staff was able to clearly explain which items were acceptable for a gluten free diet. They even offer gluten free and vegan pita bread!

Cosy Club York

Cosy Club starts off strong for their patrons with food allergies and intolerances by offering large gluten free and vegan menus before you’re even seated! Not only was the food delicious, I was also impressed with the server’s knowledge of what they offered to accommodate gluten, dairy, and egg allergies. It is always important to feel comfortable that you will be well taken care of when eating out!

The Nice Cream Factory

The Nice Cream Factory is unlike anywhere I have visited for vegan ice cream in the past. They make it fresh when you order using liquid nitrogen to cool it quickly. It was fun to watch the cloud rise around it as the ice cream was being made. They offer quite a few of their flavors in a vegan option (a soy milk base) and of course, it is easy to avoid gluten because they make it fresh!
