If you’re planning a trip to Hawaii you need to know that eating gluten free, dairy free and vegan is easy on the island of Maui!
This island was the last stop on our Hawaiian honeymoon and the delicious food we enjoyed was definitely the cherry on top of the entire experience.
There are so many great areas to visit during your time in Maui, and my list below covers some of my favorites – from Kahului to Lahaina to Kihei and even the road to Hana!
You can eat confidently during your vacation with my gluten free, dairy free, and vegan guide to Maui!
These were some of my favorite gluten free, dairy free, and vegan restaurant experiences in Maui:
Maui Brick Oven
Gluten Free | Dairy Free | Egg Free | Vegan
Tucked into the corner of an unassuming strip mall in Kihei is the 100% gluten free restaurant, Maui Brick Oven. They offer a wide variety of options from pizza to bowls, to fish and chips – all of which is delicious!
For vegan patrons, they have a vegan bowl which is no ordinary bowl, it is absolutely scrumptious and HUGE. They also have gluten free, dairy free, and vegan onion rings and battered mushrooms – yum!
The fish and chips are fresh, crispy and light with no fishy taste at all. Be prepared it is a big serving and can easily be shared, especially for those of us who aren’t used to eating fried foods!
The pizza crust does contain one egg per 5 large pizza crusts, so unfortunately the pizza cannot be vegan, but if you are just dairy free they do offer a vegan cheese.
We loved the food here so much we actually went twice. I might come back to Maui just for the gluten free options offered here!
Nalu’s South Shore Grill
Gluten Free | Dairy Free | Egg Free | Vegan
If you’re hungry for a burger, salad or wrap – Nalu’s is the place to go! I was told about this restaurant from another blogger that lives in Maui. From looking at their menu, it isn’t clear whether or not they offer gluten free and vegan options, so you will want to ask at the counter before ordering. I was actually really surprised! They offer a gluten free and vegan bun that will blow your socks off. Definitely worth a stop!
Slappy Cakes Maui
Gluten Free | Dairy Free | Egg Free | Vegan
If you’re looking for a unique and fun breakfast or brunch idea in Maui, you need to go to Slappy Cakes! They actually offer gluten free and vegan pancakes you make at your own table. Of course, you can have them made and brought to you too, but the idea of making my own pancakes was exciting! They currently do not offer vegan butter, but they do have a delicious coconut syrup that is dairy free and vegan.
Thai Mee Up
Gluten Free | Dairy Free | Egg Free | Vegan
I always love Thai food, and this place was recommended to me by one of the owners of Maui Brick Oven (mentioned above) so I knew it was likely a safe place for allergies. Located in a parking lot across from the Costco near the airport in Kahului is a small food truck park.
The gem of this park is the Thai Mee Up! They offer fresh, cooked to order Thai food with gluten free and vegan options. The curries and pad thai are gluten free! I ordered the pad thai (egg free) and it was fresh, hot and delicious. Definitely worth a stop if you’re in the area!
Frida’s Beach House
Gluten Free | Dairy Free | Egg Free | Vegan
If you’re looking for gluten free and vegan Mexican food with a view in Maui, you should definitely check out Frida’s Beach House in Lahaina. The location is awesome, right on the water – we actually even felt some spray from the waves crashing! They also have a parking lot to make your visit even more convenient.
While the chips are not celiac safe because of a shared fryer, they do have some great taco options available to help you get your fix. I had amazing veggie tacos with corn tortillas and topped them with avocado for a perfect gluten free and vegan meal.

Penne Pasta Cafe
Gluten Free | Dairy Free | Egg Free | Vegan
Guess what? You can find gluten free, dairy free and vegan Italian food in Maui. This is another restaurant where the menu isn’t necessarily obvious online, but when you get to the counter to order they will be able to walk you through your options.
They have gluten free and vegan pasta, gluten free crusts (not vegan due to eggs) and vegan crusts (not gluten free). Daiya cheese is also offered for pizzas for those who want dairy free cheese. They made me a special pasta dish with gluten free pasta, broccoli, and a sauce of garlic and olive oil because I can’t have red sauce due to my tomato allergy. It was a delicious and satisfying meal.
Ululani’s Hawaiian Shave Ice
Gluten Free | Dairy Free | Egg Free | Vegan
If you’re looking for the best shave ice on Maui, you will find it at Ululani’s! There are four locations throughout the island that all offer gluten free, dairy free and vegan flavor options. What makes Ululani’s so special is that the ice is shaved into such a fine powder that when the flavor is added it creates a sort of creamy consistency resembling ice cream! It is something you really must try to fully appreciate.
Peace Love Shave Ice
Gluten Free | Dairy Free | Egg Free | Vegan
If you love shave ice and Dole Whip, you’re going to want to hurry over to Peace Love Shave Ice! It is in Kihei, located in the parking lot near Nalu’s South Shore Grill that is mentioned above. They offer the option (until 6:30pm) to put Dole Whip under your shave ice. I also really appreciated that they have the option of using completely natural flavorings without all the artificial extras that most of us try to avoid.
Lappert’s Ice Cream
Gluten Free | Dairy Free | Egg Free | Vegan
Get your Dole Whip fix in Lahaina at Lappert’s Ice Cream. Located not far from the banyan tree park, this small ice cream shop stays busy. Especially on a hot day when cruise ships are in town! You can grab yourself Dole Whip in a cup, or even have it twisted with ice cream. Be aware though, the ice cream in the twist is lactose free but not dairy free or vegan!
Coconut Glen’s
Gluten Free | Dairy Free | Egg Free | Vegan
If the Road To Hana is on your Maui itinerary – it should be – then make sure to add in a stop to Coconut Glen’s! They offer coconut ice cream that is dairy free and vegan. It is exactly the kind of treat I couldn’t wait to enjoy after a few hours on the road. I had the chocolate chunk and the salted caramel – so yummy! Just make sure to bring cash, as that is the only accepted form of payment.
Keep in mind, you will want to note the location on a map before heading off on the road, as your navigation will most likely not work due to there being bad reception along your drive in that part of the island.
Gluten Free, Dairy Free and Vegan Eating at Four Seasons Resort Maui At Wailea:
Gluten Free | Dairy Free | Egg Free | Vegan
If you’re planning to stay at the Four Seasons Resort during your time in Maui – which I highly recommend you do if you have food allergies – you’ll be happy to know there are lots of options for you!
The service at The Four Seasons is mind-blowing, which overflows into their willingness to go above and beyond for those with food allergies. Almost anything on the menu that I wanted could be adjusted to meet my needs. That went for the menus at the restaurants, lobby bar, the pool and room service!
I enjoyed gluten free beyond burgers with dairy-free cheese and gluten free fries, gluten free wraps with vegan cheese, vegan hearts of palm “ceviche” with gluten free chips, gluten free and vegan avocado mousse, smoothies, and so much more!
