3 Apps You Need To Have When Traveling With Food Allergies

In the world today there are literally millions of apps that promise to make life easier. It isn’t hard to fill your phone and iPad with apps. So, if you’re anything like me, you want only what you need.

When traveling, there are already so many things to keep track of. The last thing I want to deal with are a bunch of frustrating, costly, or poorly designed apps. All they do is take away from my precious travel time. I know you’re busy too. That is why you need to know just the essential apps for traveling with food allergies.

To help us both out, I created this short list of 3 must-have apps. They are useful for anyone with food allergies and can make things a little less stressful when traveling abroad.

1. TripWhistle Global SOS

What you would do if you or a family member had an allergy emergency when traveling abroad? How would you know what emergency number to call and where to direct the emergency personnel? TripWhistle Global SOS app can help you handle all of these concerns with just the tap of a button.

3 Apps You Need To Have When Traveling With Food Allergies

Allergic reactions happen in the blink of an eye. With 196 countries and 70 different emergency numbers, knowing the right number to call in the moment is vital. This app could be a real lifesaver. With it’s ability to not only provide local emergency numbers, but also to share your exact location with the responders. It can give them what they need to find you fast.

The app shows your location, your coordinates, and gives you the option to call police, emergency, or fire; depending on the type of emergency you are experiencing. It is easy to navigate and is extremely user-friendly. Having this information at your fingertips is a great way to put your mind at ease. Download and know you are prepared in case of emergency!

2. Google Translate

If you have considered traveling abroad with food allergies you have most likely seen resources for food allergy translation cards. Although these can be a useful tool, they may not always be easy to use in the moment. That is especially true if you want to ask questions about specific menu items.

3 Apps You Need To Have When Traveling With Food Allergies

Being able to communicate your allergies efficiently with others is priority #1 when eating out in other countries. To ensure you’re always armed with a way to ask questions before you eat, make sure to download google translate.

The camera can be used for text translation or it can translate for you as you type. It works even if you don’t have data connection available where you are! There is also an option to switch into conversation mode which allows the app to do instant speech translation. This app is awesome and easy to use with straightforward features you expect from Google.

3. Air Matters

Living in the Midwest, I can often take for granted that we have good air quality on a daily basis. Unfortunately, along with food allergies, I have many environmental allergies. They can throw a wrench in my day if I am unprepared for the pollen that is blowing around outdoors.

3 Apps You Need To Have When Traveling With Food Allergies

If you suffer from airborne allergies or asthma, knowing the air quality and pollution is super important. Even more so when traveling in new locations. Be prepared while traveling with the Air Matters app! It shares information about the air quality and allergens in any of over 50 countries in just a tap.

Checking this app before heading out or opening a window. It can help you plan your day to ensure you’re picking activities that are best suited for your health, due to the air quality. This app provides detailed information and is easy to use!

Conclusion

Traveling abroad can bring a host of complications for those struggling with allergies and intolerances. When looking for resources don’t bog yourself down with too many frustrating or costly apps. Choosing the right ones is important. Make sure they are simple to use and offer helpful information for planning your day. It can literally be a lifesaver!

These are great. We always think of Google Translate or something that will help us communicate, but what about emergencies in a foreign area? I used to stress and over research every country we would visit. These would have been helpful!

I am lactose intolerant and whilst it is not a life threatening illness, it does make me feel very bad and potentially lose an entire day of my trip. I always have Google Translate with me when I travel so I know how to ask for a coffee with lacto free milk.
